Wisdom tooth pain post image

Home Remedies to give you relief from wisdom tooth pain.

If you’re in your late teens or early twenties and are experiencing cyclical, dull/ at times excruciating pain at the back of your mouth, Viola! You might have a wisdom tooth trying to erupt in your mouth Although you may not remember teething as a kid, the eruption of wisdom teeth pretty much makes up for it.

Well, it might not be exciting as it sounds because the process can be very painful if wisdom tooth is in a crooked/mal-aligned position or creating an infection in the gum above the tooth.

What can you expect in your mouth?

Signs that you need to look out for:

  • Gums begin aching, can become red/inflamed, especially behind your molars.
  • Your wisdom tooth begins to tear out of your gums.
  • Swollen lymph nodes under your jaw.
  • Difficulty in swallowing and opening the mouth.
  • Slight fever

What are the solutions?

Well, your dentist will advise to get it removed as soon as it possible. But you might not be too keen to get it removed fearing the whole procedure and surgery so here are a few solutions apart from your over the counter analgesic medication and regular oral hygiene measures to delay the inevitable and situations such as the present day scenario of a global pandemic when dentist’s aren’t allowed to open or lack the protective equipment to schedule an appointment for you.

1. Coconut Oil

Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. Spit it out and rinse your mouth with lukewarm water Coconut oil possesses antimicrobial and analgesic properties, which protect your teeth and mouth from oral infections and reduce wisdom tooth pain

2. Clove

Take a clove and place it on the area affected. Bite on it so that it doesn’t move away from the tooth. You can also apply clove oil on the affected tooth and the surrounding gums to relieve pain. You must do this 4 to 5 times a day.

It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anesthetic properties.

3. Salt water

Dissolve a teaspoon or two of table salt in a glass of warm water. Rinse your mouth with the saline solution for a few minutes.

Do this atleast 2-3 times daily for effective results.

4. Essential Oils

  • Mix equal amounts of peppermint essential oil and coconut oil.
  • Apply this mixture with your finger on the affected tooth and the gums around it.
  • Massage gently for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

  • Add a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and mix well.
  • Use this solution to rinse your mouth. Do this atleast 1 to 2 times a day.
  • Apple cider vinegar possesses antimicrobial properties that can protect your teeth and mouth from oral infections

Remember

These remedies will definitely reduce the pain and discomfort. They will definitely assist in either healing the affected tooth or at least delaying its extraction to a certain extent.

However, if nothing seems to work, you might eventually have to go ahead and head to a dentist near you to get your wisdom tooth removed surgically. You may want to keep the following tips in mind to avoid the pain and discomfort after the procedure.
